Young Sheldon star reveals shocking injury with heartbreaking plea to fans
Everyone’s favorite sassy Young Sheldon grandma has a message for you – don’t drink and drive, and wish her well ahead of her heartbreaking surgery.
If the ending of Young Sheldon Season 7 – and George’s death – weren’t emotional enough, the drama has continued off-screen for some of the Young Sheldon cast.
This week all eyes are on Annie Potts, who played Meemaw in The Big Bang Theory prequel. Opening up to her followers on both TikTok and Instagram, she’s revealed she is heading to hospital for her 26th surgery after an accident involving drunk drivers.
In an emotional video, Potts explained: “I was just thinking that I might ask people to be thinking about me because I have to go to the hospital tomorrow and have surgery to replace one of my knees.
“It’s already been replaced once. It’s something like my 25th or 26th surgery… I’ve kind of lost count. 50 years ago, some drunk teenagers were drag racing down the wrong side of the road and hit me, and I broke every bone below my waist but one.”
Potts ends her heartbreaking plea with: “I’ve been trying to put myself back together for 50 years… if you ever notice that Meemaw limps, it’s because I limp – because somebody made a bad choice.
“When you’re out there this summer partying, please don’t drink and drive… it might hurt somebody.”
Young Sheldon fans were quick to flood the comments section with tributes, with one posting, “NO!!! NOT MEEMAW!!”
A second agreed, “Meemaw! You will be fine, amen!” while a third weighed in, “I hope everything will be alright Meemaw!”
Over on Instagram, there have been well wishes from familiar faces… including from her fictional grandchildren, Sheldon and Missy.
Raegan Revord (who plays Missy) wrote, “You are such a rockstar and I love you!” Sheldon actor Iain Armitage added, “You are absolutely amazing! Love you, Meemaw and sending you so much love!”
If you’re concerned that Potts’ upcoming surgery will affect her cameo in Georgie and Mandy’s First Marriage, worry not.
Alongside Revord and fellow Young Sheldon co-star Zoe Perry, Potts has already filmed her stint for the spinoff. The trio will be appearing across the first two episodes, though it’s currently unknown if they will be back for more.
Georgie and Mandy’s First Marriage continues to film, with its release date set for October 17, 2024.
