All Rights Reserved.âGeorgie & Mandyâs First Marriage,â the sequel to âYoung Sheldon,â follows Georgie (Montana Jordan) and Mandy (Emily Osment) as they raise their young family in Texas while navigating the challenges of adulthood, parenting and marriage.
âYoung Sheldonâ looked at the life of Sheldon Cooper when he was living with his family in Texas. From 2017-2024, viewers saw the evolution of the young genius who was first introduced to television viewers via the original show in the franchise, âThe Big Bang Theory.â The franchise continues with Sheldonâs big brother, Georgie, and his wife, Mandy, in the new sitcom âGeorgie & Mandyâs First Marriage.â
Montana Jordan continues the role of Georgie Cooper with Emily Osment returning as Mandy. The show focuses on the trials and tribulations of their young marriage with their baby. Fans were thrilled to discover several characters from âYoung Sheldonâ will also be appearing on this spinoff, including Annie Potts as Meemaw, Raegan Record as Missy, Zoe Perry as Mary Cooper, and possibly Will Sasso and Rachel Bay Jones as Mandyâs parents.
Unlike his genius brother, Georgie is a high school dropout with a new baby and wife, but heâs intent on making their lives good.
Osment was originally signed for one episode on âYoung Sheldonâ but became a regular. For her, it was a big surprise.
Jordan recently became a father in real life and he can relate in part to his character of Georgie. âItâs good to see how heâs growing up and becoming the man of the household. ⊠I think itâll be good to see him grow into more of a man than he is now.â
With a grin, he added in his thick Texas accent, âI might be able to relate a little bit. I got a little 7-week-old right nowâ Note: This press conference took place in July, so by now his baby is a little older.
âI think everybody thinks a Southerner is down to earth and very respectful people, and I think I try to be down to earth and respectful myself,â Jordan said. He was plucked out of obscurity for his role in âYoung Sheldon.â
He added, âI think the way that Georgieâs going, I think heâs growing up and turning into a man. And heâs got a young family now, with his dad passing and all that. So, heâs having to grow up fast. Iâm excited to see what all happens from there.â
Osment elaborated on their two characters. She said Georgie has âbeen coasting, living at home, being an 18-year-old. This roadblock basically came into his life, and itâs sort of caused him to step up. And I think that proves that (the two of) them together are a very good team because they do get on each otherâs nerves. And sheâs trying to pull him along sometimes, but sheâs older. And what a fight to be able to help someone come into their adulthood and him help her come into her motherhood. I think itâs a beautiful story.â
Both Osment and Jordan are enjoying the ride and they consider themselves extremely lucky to be doing what they are doing. And their stories are being played out in their personal lives in many ways. Jordan just became a father and Georgie just became a father. Osment became engaged and Mandy became engaged. Coincidence?
âThe Big Bang Theoryâ franchise looks to be in good hands under the thumb of Chuck Lorre. Perhaps there will be a âYoung Howard Wolowitzâ in the future. Who knows? Lorre seems to have the Midas touch.
This show will have a little different feel than its predecessor. Where âYoung Sheldonâ was filmed with one camera, âGeorgie and Mandyâs First Marriageâ will be a multi-cam series in front of an audience like âThe Big Bang Theory.â It premieres Oct. 17 on CBS and streams on Paramount+.
