Mayim Bialik Had Followed A Specific Routine When The Big Bang Theory Producers Stopped Shooting Her Kissing Scene With Jim Parsons
Jim Parsons Praised Mayim Bialik For Still Taking On Their Kissing Scene Despite His Bad Cold
During their time together on The Big Bang Theory, Mayim Bialik and Jim Parsons enjoyed a strong relationship off-camera. Bialik credits their friendship to the fact that both of them didn’t show many emotions, and that worked in their favor both on and off camera.
Among the duo’s most memorable scenes on the show included their first kiss. However, it wasn’t as straightforward as most fans might’ve assumed. In fact, Jim Parsons revealed with Us Magazine that he wasn’t feeling great on the day of the kiss. Despite his health troubles, Bialik was a complete professional during the scene.
Jim reveals, “I was sick with something, like a bad respiratory cold. And it was ironic because I always took care of myself, and here I am sick during one of the very rare times I have to kiss her. And kiss her several times because I knew we’d have to do several takes. I was like, This is unbelievable! I felt bad about it, I really did. Mayim is always very game and never one to worry about those things too much.”
Mayim took part in the scene, however, she used a wise tactic in-between scenes.
Jim Parsons Had A Bad Cold During His Kiss With Mayim Bialik And Because It Took Multiple Takes, The Actress Gargled Peroxide Between Takes
Mayim Bialik revealed that shooting the kissing scene wasn’t exactly easy, and it turned out to be a very long day for the cast and crew. Given that Parsons was under the weather, Bialik took the wise decision to rinse in-between scenes, ensuring that her health would stay intact.
She revealed in The Big Bang Theory: The Definitive Inside Story of the Epic Hit Series, “The man was visibly sweating and feverish, so I rinsed with peroxide in between every kiss, every scene, every take, so that I wouldn’t get sick. It’s such a great scene, and it turned out so great, but it was a really hard night. … To think of all the work that went into it, I’m so glad it was so sweet. I really loved it. Oh, and I did not get sick.”
At the very least, the kiss was all completely worth it. According to Kaley Cuoco, the first kiss between Sheldon and Amy received the biggest ovation.
“One of the biggest reactions was for when Sheldon and Amy (played by Jim Parsons and Mayim Bialik) kissed on the train, and our engagement was huge too.”We just sat there for 10 minutes while they were cheering and clapping. I had chills. I feel like I’m a viewer of the show too, so I was excited. I really wanted that to happen, too, for “Lenny,” for Leonard and Penny.”
In the end, the sacrifice was all worth it!
Mayim Bialik Shared A Kiss With Another Big Bang Theory Actor
Speaking alongside Today, Bialik retold the story of Johnny Galecki’s first on-screen kiss, which happened to be alongside herself during the early portion of her career.
“Johnny Galecki was on Blossom when we were kids. I think I was his first onstage kiss! We had the same agent when we were kids so that relationship is fun–that feels really comfortable.”
It was a memorable moment between the two, and their paths would cross years later on the show once again. Bialik told Today that she couldn’t have asked for a better cast to work with.
“It’s a really neat set, Simon, Kunal and Kaley are really terrific, too, and I enjoy being there. It’s definitely humbling to be in a group of people who know each other really well and work well together and, like, knocking and saying, ‘Hi, can I come in?’ “
Bialik’s initial stages on the show were on an episode-by-episode basis, with no long-term plan in place. Ultimately, that would all change and Bialik became a regular on the series alongside the main cast members.
