“I was sobbing”: One Young Sheldon Episode Forced Raegan Revord to Relive a Traumatic Incident That Temporarily Took Away Her Hearing
Raegan Revord got into a car accident when she was going to film Young Sheldon.
Raegan Revord’s Missy became a beloved character on Young Sheldon over the years. Fans got to watch her grow up and change in front of their eyes; going from a bratty pre-teen to a wise and caring girl. This has caused many to be extremely protective of her. Unfortunately, this sentiment was unable to stop her from the harsh realities of the world.
During the filming of the series, the actress got involved in a serious car accident, that fundamentally changed her as a person. Despite this, Revord was forced to relive the experience the next day, being the ever-professional actress that she is.
Raegan Revord Had A Traumatic Experience
In a 2023 Instagram post, Raegan Revord revealed that when she was going to film on Iain Armitage’s Young Sheldon set, she and her mother were making their way back home when they got into a car accident. They were t-boned by a driver who was under the influence, and she was seriously affected by this incident, even revealing that she had post-traumatic stress disorder afterward.
On the way to work my mom and I were t-boned by a driver driving under the influence.
During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the actress revealed that the sound of metal hitting metal haunted her for a while afterward. After the collision, the pair got out of the car, and Revord was extremely worried that she had broken her foot.
And then, at like some point, you kind of realize there’s nothing you can do if you’ve been in a car accident, You realize at some point it’s, like, brace yourself. There’s not much you can do about it. I’m just trying to picture it — you see a car coming around and then you hear, like, metal on metal, and that sound sticks with you.
It’s so loud, like my hearing has been going out because of it. It was insanely loud. And I’m like, I don’t know if I blacked out. It just happened so quick, but the car comes around and hits us and then the car fills with smoke, because the airbags have a little explosive behind it that shoots out at you. So the car fills with smoke and I got out because I had hurt my foot somehow.
The actress revealed that the incident also affected her hearing; she was not able to hear anything for five minutes after it happened. The incident clearly stuck with her and affected her greatly in the days that followed. This is why it is surprising to know that she went on to film on set the very same day.
The Show Must Go On—But At What Cost?
During the interview, Raegan Revord went on to reveal that she had to make it back to set and continue filming, even though she had just been in an accident. What made the whole situation all the more concerning was that it was the episode where Missy and Paige were stuck in a car for the majority of the duration. This meant that soon after being in an extremely traumatizing car accident, Revord was forced to be in a car for most of the day.
She recalled the entire situation as being extremely horrible for her. Although she tried to keep her cool, she could not let go of the fact that anything could happen to her when she was in that car. Soon after the shooting was over, she called her father, crying her heart out, asking him to come get her.
I was filming and I had a late-night shoot and then we finished and I had to get in the car to go home and I had a full-on panic attack.
I was sobbing. I didn’t want to. I was literally on the phone with my dad begging him to come pick me up. He has a huge, apocalyptic-looking truck that I feel is indestructible. And I was like, ‘Please, you have to come pick me up. I cannot go home.’
Not only did she have panic attacks throughout the filming of the episode, she also asked her father to bring his truck with him. Calling it ‘indestructible’, she mentioned that she wanted to go home in something she felt safe in, after all that had happened to her.
