Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage Recasts Young Sheldon Character as Series Regular
New casting information has been revealed for Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, the sequel series to Young Sheldon. It includes the recasting of a minor character from Young Sheldon.
Per TVLine, actor Dougie Baldwin (Disjointed) has been cast in a series regular role as Connor, the brother of Emily Osment’s Mandy. The character was previously featured in a Season 6 episode of Young Sheldon with Joseph Apollonio in the role. Now serving as a main character, Connor is described as a “talented oddball with musical prowess who still lives with his parents. Coddled by his mother, Audrey, and hassled by his father, Jim, Connor doesn’t fit in — even in his own family.”
Emily Osment says she’s trying to get older Georgie Cooper actor Jerry O’Connell involved with Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage.
Also joining the cast for the spinoff is Jessie Prez (Griselda). He will be playing the role of Ruben, an employee of Jim’s tire store who “is less than enthusiastic about the shop’s newest hire: Jim’s son-in-law, Georgie.” The role is also reportedly that of a series regular.
There Will Be More Returning Actors From Young Sheldon
Audrey and Jim, the parents of Mandy and Connor, will also be featured as main characters in Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage. They have not been recast, as Rachel Bay Jones and Will Sasso are reprising the roles. Of course, Emily Osment is back as Mandy while Montana Jordan reprises his role as Georgie Cooper. Zoe Perry and Annie Potts will appear in the pilot episode as Mary and Meemaw, while Raegan Revord is set to appear in the second episode as Missy. It’s not yet clear if Iain Armitage will return as Sheldon Cooper.
Two stars of Young Sheldon reunited after their characters failed to have a proper farewell in the CBS series.
Baldwin may be best known for his role in the Netflix comedy Disjointed, which also starred Kathy Bates. He also had significant roles in the shows Nowhere Boys and Upper Middle Bogan. Prez, meanwhile, had a recurring role in Sofia Vergara’s hit Netflix series Griselda. He also recently appeared in the comedy series Abbott Elementary with his other television work including Shameless, Bosch: Legacy, The Rookie: Feds, and 9-1-1: Lone Star.
The new series will follow Georgie and Mandy as they start their lives together as a new family. Osment has hinted that the spinoff will pick up fairly quickly after the events of the Young Sheldon finale.
“I actually have not read anything yet but we’re starting fairly soon and we’re still in the process of pre-production,” Osment teased about the series just ahead of production to ET. “I assume it starts right where we left off, so there isn’t too big of a gap for our viewers in terms of, like, story or missing us too much. We just pick right up where we were.”
Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage will premiere on Thursday, Oct. 17, at 8/7c on CBS.
