‘Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage’: Montana Jordan on What to Expect From ‘Young Sheldon’ Spinoff (Exclusive)
Montana Jordan is spilling all the details on his ‘Young Sheldon’ spinoff, ‘Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage.’
Montana Jordan is giving fans an update on Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage and what it will entail for his character.
Talking with ET’s Deidre Behar from the orange carpet of the 2024 Kids’ Choice Awards on Saturday, the 21-year-old actor spilled the details on the highly-anticipated Young Sheldon spinoff and where exactly the show will find his beloved character, Georgie Cooper, after the death of his father.
“You’re going to find them two months after Young Sheldon ended,” the Texas native shared, adding, “They’re still mourning the loss of, you know, George [Sr.] dying and all that and so you’re going to get to see Georgie become the man of the household.”
In the last several episodes of Young Sheldon, the Cooper family patriarch, George Sr. (Lance Barber), shockingly passed away from a heart attack, leaving his three kids — George Jr. (Jordan), Sheldon (Iain Armitage) and Missy (Raegan Revord) — to cope with the loss. George Sr. also left behind his wife, Mary (Zoe Perry).
Jordan said that the show — which follows Georgie and his wife, Mandy McAllister (Emily Osment) in the throws of their marriage — will see the couple experience the ups and downs of a relationship and young parenthood in a dichotomy-driven comedy.
He also shared that while they plan to keep it light and funny for the live studio audience — a return to The Big Bang Theory roots for executive producer Chuck Lorre — they don’t plan to shy away from “the hardness” and “the struggles” of two young parents trying to figure their lives out.
In June, ET spoke with the Hannah Montana alum at the Baha Mar Resort in the Bahamas, where she shared the very little information she had on the scripts and the content that the show will cover in its first season.
“I actually have not read anything yet, but we’re starting fairly soon and we’re still in the process of pre-production,” Osment said. “I assume it starts right where we left off, so there isn’t too big of a gap for our viewers in terms of, like, story or missing us too much. We just pick right up where we were.”
Just hours before his Kids’ Choice Awards stop, Jordan appeared at a Television Critics Association event alongside Osment and they confirmed that the show will feature guest stars a plenty. Included in that list are Perry, Revord and Annie Potts — who play Georgie’s mother, sister and grandmother, respectively.
At the Kids’ Choice Awards, Jordan shared of the cast, “Well, who we have right now – and I can tell you this without getting fired — is Mrs. Zoe Perry, Ms. Annie Potts and Ms. Raegan Revord.”
According to the actor, he had to do an audition to land the role in the spinoff, and he made sure that his on-screen family members had to do the same. “I did my own audition, so I got them to audition for it this time,” Jordan told ET. “They all did great, so they got the part.”
On Saturday, the show’s executive producers, Lorre, Steven Molaro and Steve Holland, were tight-lipped on how and when the trio of integral ladies in Georgie’s life will appear in the show, but shared that each will make a big splash in season 1.
The show also stars Rachel Bay Jones and Will Sasso as Mandy’s parents, Audrey and Will, who are skeptical about her relationship with Georgie.
