From Sheldon to Missy: The Young Sheldon characters confirmed to return for spinoff show
The Young Sheldon spinoff, Georgie and Mandy’s First Marriage is set to release later this year, and it looks like we’ll be seeing some familiar characters pop up. Whilst the spinoff will primarily focus on Georgie and Mandy as they “raise their family while navigating the challenges of adulthood, parenting and marriage”, we’re still going to get to see other members of the Cooper family now and again.
The show will take place a couple of months after the devastating death of George, with Emily Osment describing: “I think it’s wise for us to deal with the fallout of that, of the loss of the father. So we get into that a little bit in the pilot and I’m sure we’ll broach it even more as the series goes on.” Mandy’s parents have been confirmed to be series regulars, but which other characters from Young Sheldon are returning to the spinoff.
Executive producer Steve Molaro confirmed that Zoe Perry, Raegan Revord and Annie Potts will all return as Mary, Missy and Meemaw. He revealed to TVLine: “Zoe and Annie are in the first episode, and Raegan will be in the second episode.”
Iain Armitage has also been hinted to potentially return in a holiday episode, with fellow producer Steve Holland admitting: “Like we’ve always said, this is a world where this family exists and can be a part of this world. We love all these actors. Sheldon is in Pasadena going to school, but I think for a Christmas or a Thanksgiving [episode], we would love to have him stop by. This is a world where these actors can keep coming and playing. We don’t want to make it a ‘guest star of the week’ thing, but they’re a part of this world.”
Iain has previously expressed his desire to make a cameo in the spinoff, explaining: “If I got a call to go back, that’d be so much fun. I’m also just excited to get to sit back on my couch with some popcorn and watch their show because they’re so good. But I could totally see myself getting in the khakis again, putting on the old penny loafers and bow tie, and going back out on the job.” Here’s hoping we can catch up with Sheldon and see how he’s been coping since his father’s death.
