After The Walking Dead came to an end back in 2022 following a staggering 11-season run, several of its primary members struck out on their own. Daryl (Norman Reedus) ended up on the shores of France with his bestie Carol (Melissa McBride) not far behind in The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, while separated spouses Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and Michonne (Danai Gurira) found their way back to one another in The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live. Meanwhile, an unlikely allyship was formed between archenemies Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and Maggie (Lauren Cohan) in The Walking Dead: Dead City. And, although each offshoot has proved its potential thanks to impressive viewership numbers, there are many fans who would give everything to see the full band back together again. In fact, it isn’t just the universe’s sprawling following that would love to see a reunion, with Cohan recently marking herself as fully on board with the idea.

During a chat with Collider’s Christina Radish ahead of the Season 2 finale of Dead City, Cohan revealed her hopes that a sort of “super group” might rejoin and ride off into the sunset one last time.

“We’ve talked about taking these characters to somewhere where they we eventually do all get back together again and there’s some intersection of the super group. I think it would blow people’s minds. It would blow our minds. It would be the ultimate reunion and the ultimate finish.”

But first, Cohan says she’d want to finish the story that she, Morgan, and the rest of the team set out to tell when they kicked off Season 1 of Dead City in 2023.

“In terms of how long we spend on our story in Dead City, even things we talk about that could happen in another season, it’s such a new take and a new direction that as long as those things get to keep happening then the story is not done. There’s a big light coming for Maggie, that we have in this long-term arc that’s planned for her. So, I definitely want to stay until the light comes.”

As the Season 2 finale came and went, no decision has been made by AMC regarding the Season 3 fate of The Walking Dead: Dead City. Still, Cohan has plenty of hopes for what’s to come between both Maggie and Negan, as well as the strained relationship between Maggie and her son, Hershel (Logan Kim). Tying in the events of the Season 2 finale and how they’ll affect whatever happens next, Cohan said:

“That’s what I want to see next. I don’t want to call it a truce, but they have basically beaten each other into submission, so I’d like to see some sort of agreement where, if it’s not to the death, then there is something livable here. That then allows for the show, because they’ve made this decision and they’ve gone to the absolute limit of what you can do in this dynamic, to just shatter open, and everything that we’ve expected and everything that these characters can expect of themselves or of others can be turned on its head. That is what I would like to see. That’s what I hope to do next.”

Over the last set of episodes, audiences watched as Maggie slowly lost control of Hershel thanks to the presence of The Dama (Lisa Emery). Maggie’s quest to save her son from the clutches of the villainous character was what served as the very foundation of Dead City, but is there still hope for Hershel to stay away from the dark side?

“I hope so. What I liked about that storyline is that it’s just a symbol for the influences that can befall young people. No matter how loving or willing you are as a parent, there will always be potential for interception. That is really scary and really sad. It’s a learning experience for both Maggie and Hershel. Hershel has a lot more runway because he’s still so young. It’s a learning experience for Maggie because over these last few seasons and over these years, you see the vision tunneling because of trauma and because of fear of losing the last person she has left. What we got to this season was the beginning of that hope coming back in. Whatever this survival method is that’s been harnessed, it’s just not going to work anymore. Reaching breaking points like that is always, ultimately, the beginning of a new story and that, to me, is very uplifting despite the other horrible things.”

Seasons 1 and 2 of The Walking Dead: Dead City are now streaming on AMC+.
